
A proverb is a short, simple, and popular saying which expresses traditional truth,
wisdom, and moral based on human common sense and practical experience. A
proverb may describe a basic code of conduct, similar to a maxim, but is oftentimes
expressed metaphorically.
Many proverbs originate from different languages and various cultures. They are
handed down from one generation to another thus their original authors are unknown.
However the Bible has been one of the great sources of proverbs which explain why
many popular proverbs have religious connotations. The ownership of proverbs are
considered to belong in public domain.

A bird in hand is worth two in bush. Something you already have is more valuable than
something that you may just get because there is no assurance that you will get it.
A fool and his money are soon parted. A person who spends one’s money foolishly, or
unwisely, will soon lose it.
A friend in need is a friend indeed. A true friend is one who will not hesitate to help you
even if he himself is likewise in need.
A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. An incomplete information, if misused, can
cause embarrassment or harm to somebody.
A penny saved is a penny earned. A money saved by spending it wisely is like earning
some extra money from working.
A rolling stone gathers no moss. A person who keeps on changing jobs or places to
live does not acquire stability.
Action speaks louder than word. It is better to do something to improve a situation or
solve a problem rather than to just keep on talking about it.
All that glitters is not gold. Many alluring and attractive things are actually less valuable
than they appear to be.
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. A person who works hard without resting
or taking a vacation will soon suffer from work burn-out.
All is well that ends well. An event that ends positively is still a good event even if some
things went in disarray along the way.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. It is easier to prevent an event from
happening than to deal with its bad results later when that event happened.
Beauty is only skin-deep. The outside appearance is only superficial; it is what is
inside that counts most.
Beggars cannot be choosers. You should not be critical of something you ask for free.
Birds of the same feather flock together. People with the same character and
personality enjoy their company together.
